Art is something that I have always loved doing. I must have liked it enough to do it at University! Unfortunately as some artists who have graduated will know, after graduating you can hit a severe artist block; I think from having to produce so much for 3 years- (some of which you didn’t want to do) it effects your practice. I didn’t pick up a pencil for nearly 4 months after handing in my last module as I just didn’t know what to do or where to begin.
During my degree I liked doing all different types of illustration- comic books, children books, editorials and sometimes (when I didn’t have a choice) animation. Doing all of this you build up a lot of different techniques and styles, which is good to have in your repertoire but sometimes makes it harder to find your own personal style. For me I love doing realistic drawings and with illustration that doesn’t really work unless doing editorial work.
I am still trying to find my finalised style of practice by trying cartoon, realistic and abstract work, and I have now moved on to working digitally to build confidence it that area.
If any of you draw. I would love to hear what you would call your “style” or if you struggle to find one like me. It’s something to work toward and play around with so.. guess I’ll just keep playing!
