Pop Funko‘s are my guilty pleasure I swear, I love collecting them, I think it will turn in to a problem soon. Collectively my boyfriend and I have collected around 40 of these plastic figures I can’t lie and say that’s where we will stop.
I have tried my hardest to pick out my top 5 out of our collection, which range in movie and television genres. Although our collection at the moment is mainly marvel, I aim to start collecting Harry Potter, (more) Game of Thrones, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. I got some saving to do!
So here it is, my “top 5“ pops:
Starting at number 5 we have one of my Game of Thrones Pops of Daenerys and Jorah in the scene of the Battle of Winterfell from the last season. This is one of my newest Pops to date and I have been waiting for this to be released every since I watched the scene on TV. Not only does it have my two favourite characters from the show, this was probably one of the very few iconic moments in the season (don’t come at me, it wasn’t good and you know it). While balling my eyes out watching Jorah fight for the last time (spoiler*) I think Funko captured it really well. There’s tiny flames sticking up from the solid base as well as tiny details of broken swords and Dragon glass. It’s those details that I really enjoy when shopping for Pops. The detail in Daenerys hair is always done so well and how they have “weathered” Jorah makes it obvious who it is. I got this pop from Game and it cost around £35, bigger “Movie Moment” pops are usually more expensive because of the extra detail, but I think it’s a great piece to add to my collection.
Next up at number 4 we have my Korg and Meik pop. This pop was from Popinabox, an online store for pops and pop subscription boxes. This pop is a 2018 NYCC Fall convention shared exclusive, hense the sticker so may be harder to find in your normal retailers. My boyfriend and I love Korg and Meik from Thor Ragnarok and couldn’t wait to add him to our ever growing Marvel collection. The detail in Korg’s body is a lot different to the other pops, as he is made out of rock and with the extra casting of Meik in his arms makes him more unique and interesting amongst the normal ”human characters”. Korg cost around £15 as he was a new release when we got him but I have seen him for around £10 in other places so it’s worth keeping your eye out out if you are interested.
Number 3 has to be Baymax from Big Hero 6. He is a 6 inch sparkly special edition pop that I got from London Film and Comic Con last year (2019). There was only one of him and I haven’t seen him in any retailers or on my usual pop websites so he is a hard find. Baymax as a character is one of my favourites from the Disney company so when I saw him I had to get him, and I had only been in comic con for about 5 minutes! He’s a beautiful pearlescent sparkly pop which looks amazing when light or sun hits him. He was around £20 which I think is an amazing deal for a hard to find and unique pop.
Number 2 is the amazing Doctor Strange 4 pack, which I got about 5 minutes after I bought Baymax. This pop is really unique, it is a limited edition, Disney Store pop which is limited to 4,000 pieces made. Firstly I had never seen a 4 pack of pops before and it is of my favourite Marvel superhero Dr Strange. The pack has Dr Strange, Karl Mordo, Ancient One and Kaecilus in, all of which are really hard to find separately or at all. I paid £25 for this pack which is amazing when pops are usually around £12 each. I love going to Comic Con and finding all of these unique pops for such amazing prices!
For the number 1 spot it has to be my first pop, and my favourite character ever, Smaug from the Hobbit. This Pop is my only pop out of their box as I just love him too much to be kept on the shelf with all the rest. My boyfriend got me Smaug for my birthday about 3 years ago and he was around £40. You will find all the Hobbit pops are really hard to find and most are resale for about 3 times the price. There are 3 versions of this pop, my one, one with yellow eyes and a golden version. The other 2 are easier to find at places like Comic Con, but for online all are pretty tricky finds. The Hobbit is my favourite film so this pop means the world to me as it is my only one. The immense detail in this pop also makes it super special, he is 6 inches like Baymax and is covered in 3D scales, one being black out just below his right wing, the one that was speared by the black arrow. The tail twists around his body and the facial spikes etc are perfectly placed just like the movie.
There you have it, my top 5 Pop Funko‘s. I want to make this a feature on my page where i go in to detail about each collection I have and other collectables we have in our very nerdy home. I hope this has given you an insight in to buying pops and what to look out for, and also a little more information about what I’m like. Let me know your favourite out of the 5 I’ve chosen!
